Ai Weiwei’s father Ai Qing, was a very famous communist poet who was a loyal lieutenant of Mao Zedong. However, after a falling out between the two in 1956, Mao forced Ai Qing and his family into exile which lasted almost 20 years until 1976. In gallery number six, three of Ai Qing’s poems are performed in Mandarin and English by Dandan Liu & Jemma Redgrave beneath and amongst the towering structure of ‘Fragments’.
